Stress! Do you know what it means? Basically, your body wants to achieve perfect balance emotionally and physically.  Stress upsets that balance.  Your body has to work hard to deal with physical and emotional stresses that you throw at it.

Stress affects us in many different ways and affects each of us very differently.

Stress takes a couple of forms internal and external.

Typical types of Internal that may affect you.

  • Food allergies
  • Blood sugar imbalances
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Depression caused by a chemical imbalance
  • Auto-immune disease PCOS and endometriosis
  • Loss of libido
  • No ovulation
  • Poor sperm

Typical types of External that may affect you.

  • Pollution
  • Poor diet
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Overwork
  • Sorrow/bereavement

What happens to you when you get stressed

Going to take you back to the stone age when we used to hunt for our food, we were confronted with dangerous animals, the threat of attack on the body released stress hormones, that triggers the body to realise energy to the different organs in our system.  The flight and fight mode.  Luckily in our modern world, we don't face these dangers anymore, but we still kick into the flight and fight mode from other threats and challenges.

What happens in flight and fight response – 7 major changes occur in the body

  1. Heart rate goes up, pumping more blood sending vital nutrients to help produce energy.
  2. Your breathing increases getting more oxygen in the blood.
  3. Your blood vessels dilate allowing more oxygen, nutrients and glucose to the brain and muscles
  4. Your spleen produces more immune cells to heal quicker if you suffer from an injury
  5. Extra glucose is released into the blood stream by the liver
  6. Your pupils dilate to allow improvement to your vision
  7. Your digestive systems slow down; it is not needed at this time. Allowing energy that is needed to digest food be used for the muscles instead.

This is a great respond, when you need it.  But your body can not keep this up, and you can see why, it depletes you.  If you keep your foot on the peddle you are using up all your bodies energies and glucose and not give yourself a chance to reboot.  In Chinese medicine, this has an effect on the Kidney and Liver which are hugely responsible for your fertility. Also the heart, lung and spleen energies.

Thus affecting reproduction, it can stop you ovulating.  Lengthen or shorten your menstrual cycle.  Has a damaging effect on your hormones that are vital for reproduction.   Affect sperm count, motility and morphology.

It is so important that you rest after your flight and fight response has been triggered.  This is what our ancestors did.  Rest restores the balance back to your body.
